What is Tails on the Trail?
Tails on the Trail is a benefit walk to promote spaying and neutering and to raise money that will pay for free and low cost spay and neuter surgeries for pets in need.
How long is the walk?
The walk is approximately one mile, starting at the intersection of Maple and Liberty Streets on the Independence Square. The walk will end at McCoy Park, were additional pet related activities will begin.
Do I have to walk a dog?
Walkers may walk with or without a dog. The goal of the walk is to promote spaying and neutering to end pet overpopulation.
Do I need to pre-register?
Pre-registration is encouraged, but walkers may register the morning of the event at the registration booth located at the intersection of Liberty and Maple Streets on the square. Walkers who will be collecting pledges will need to pre-register.
What is a Dog Pack?
A dog pack is a group of 5-10 walkers joining together to promote spaying and neutering. Dog Packs will be recognized before the walk and also on the website, if the Pack pre-registers. Dog Packs are encouraged to find a business to sponsor their walk. Businesses will also be recognized for sponsoring a Dog Pack. The business will be listed on the website and also announced at the walk.

How will the money raised from this event be used?
All money raised the day of the event will go directly to pay for free and low cost spay and neuter surgeries for families and pets in need. In order to make a difference in the number of homeless animal born each year, we must make spaying and neutering affordable to all pet owners.

I am unable to attend the walk. Is there another way I can help?
Absolutely. You can choose to make a donation, become a sponsor or sponsor a Dog Pack. To make a donation, complete the registration form, checking the option to make a donation. If you would like to become a sponsor of the event, contact jpolston@indepmo.org. If you would like to sponsor a Dog Pack, you can email jpolston@indepmo.org or you can get family and friends to form a Dog Pack and sponsor their pack.
What time does the walk begin?
Registration runs from 9-10:30 am and walkers will rally at the starting line at 10:30 am. The walk will begin at 11 am. We encourage all participants to arrive early to find parking and get registered well before the walk begins. Come and enjoy the pancake breakfast, silent auction and other activities taking place on the Independence Square that morning.
Can I turn in pledge money before the Walk?
Yes! You can mail or drop off pledge forms and money at the Independence Animal Shelter; 875 Vista Ave.; Independence, MO 64056. Please send mail to Attention: Tails on the Trail. If you choose to mail the forms, please make sure they are mailed early enough to arrive prior to 5/1/11.
