Independence Animal Shelter
Our mission is to provide services that will ensure public health and safety, provide the highest quality service and compassion to the animals entrusted to our care, to measurably reduce companion animal overpopulation, and to take a leadership role in promoting humane values for the benefit of all animals.
The shelter provides care for approximately 5000 each year. We partner with Animal's Best Friend Rescue group and many volunteers to take animals to mobile adoptions every weekend to promote dog adoptions. We also partner with Petco and Petsmart to display cats available for adoption daily at their stores, successfully promoting cat adoptions. In addition, we work closely with the rescue community to ensure that every animal is given the best chance at finding a forever home.
If you are looking to adopt a dog or cat, please check out the wonderful animals that are available for adoption at our shelter. You can visit us at 875 Vista Ave, Independence, MO or you can see pictures of adoptable animals at www.independencemo.org/animals. There are many ways you can help, even if you can't adopt! Join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/paws2adopt and help us reach potential adopters through social networking. We have been using Facebook since December, 2010 and we are receiving many inquiries, and yes, adoptions as a result of our Facebook page! You can also email jpolston@indepmo.org to inquire about our Sponsor A Spay Program to help a families and animals in need of spay or neuter services.
Please help us to ensure that every animal has a home. Spay and neuter your pets to end pet overpopulation and encourage your family and friends to adopt a shelter or rescue pet.
