We would like to thank our Presenting Sponsor, the PETCO Foundation for their support of this event. Check out the great work they do to support animal organizations at
Tails on the Trail is a benefit walk hosted by Independence Animal Shelter and Friends of the Shelter with the Petco Foundation as our presenting sponsor to promote spaying and neutering to end pet overpopulation, benefiting the whole community. Each year, thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens are born and shelters across the country are tasked with the overwhelming and heartbreaking job of caring for and finding homes for them. The solution is to ensure that spay and neuter surgeries are affordable for every pet owner in our community.
Invite your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to join us for this event. You can walk as an individual or you can form a Dog Pack and walk with friends to show your support. We encourage girl scouts, boy scouts, civic groups and businesses to get involved. There are many ways you can help - walk, sponsor, donate, educate and volunteer.
We hope you will join us on Saturday, May 7, 2011 to be a voice for the animals. Check out the information on our website about the activities that are planned before and after the walk. Plan to attend the Rabies/Microchip Clinic, have your pets' portraits taken and check back frequently to see and bid on our items for the silent auction. And you don't want to miss the delicious and fun breakfast served by Chris Cakes! Learn how you can raise money to provide free and low cost spay and neuter services to pets in need in our community. Most of all, don't forget to register, spay and neuter, and support our generous sponsors!
Meet Hazel...I am a 5 year old female princess and let me tell you, a shelter is no place for a princess! I was so scared the day I arrived, but I'm okay now. Be sure to check out the professional pictures they took of me. They too recognized my princess status. I can't wait for my new family to find me here and take me home. I need a princess bed (yours will do nicely) and some princess toys and some servants...ugh, oh, I mean a family to love me! Can't wait to meet you!
Update: Hazel was adopted, but has been returned with an eye ulcer. She was sent for surgery and the eye has been removed. Haze will spend a couple of weeks recovering and will be available for adoption as soon as she is released by the vet for adoption. She is as sweet as ever and anxiously awaits her forever family to find her and take her home!
Hazel and many other cats and dogs await their forever home at the Independence Animal Shelter. You can view all of the animals at www.independencemo.org/animals.
